Celebrating 1 year of community service (2005-2006)

UMD Eruv Committee

Rabbi Eli Kohl - Local Rav HaMachshir |Rabbi Barry Freundel - Rav HaMachshir | Harris M. Cohen - Committee Founder

December 14, 2005

Dear friends,

Just a few years ago, there was no eruv in College Park, and "Shabbos Belts" were the fad. Now, people can bring food and drinks to each others apartments, young families can push strollers with their adorable children, and everyone can enhance their oneg, or enjoyment of Shabbat.

Our community Eruv extends around the entire University of Maryland, and includes a signifigant amount of off-campus housing. Each week, the eruv is checked thouroughly by trained student volunteers, and the status posted by noon on Friday.

The support of students and members of the community is necessary so that the eruv can continue to function for years to come at the University of Maryland.

We are critically short of volunteers and leaders who are willing to step up and assume some of the responsibilities relating to the eruv. Any help that you can provide would not only be greatly appreciated, but your efforts can help to continue to enhance the ruach and zechut of our community for years to come.

If you have any questions or concerns, or wish to volunteer, please contact Shlomit Nulman at snulman@umd.edu.

Thank you for your support in making sure the College Park Eruv stays around for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Harris M. Cohen

Former President, UMD Eruv Committee
